Pediatrics Supporting Parents
2017-2025
Well-child visits (also called “checkups”) from birth to age three present a nearly universal access point for pediatricians and parents to come together to promote and support children’s well-being. Pediatrics Supporting Parents (PSP) seeks to set universal goals to support children’s healthy social and emotional development during those pediatric well-child visits, aiming to ensure all families, especially those experiencing the impacts of historical and institutional racism, have access to proven practices and resources to create lasting change that will help all children succeed.
PSP developed 14 evidence-based practiced, promoted through five “proof point communities” (PPCs) across four states: North Carolina, New York, Washington, and California (San Francisco and Los Angeles). These PPCs bring together families, pediatricians, and community leaders to co-create the initiative’s strategic priorities.
Family Voices’ Role in PSP
Family Voices provided one-on-one family engagement coaching and technical assistance to all five PPCs, using our evidence-based framework for youth and family engagement.
- We worked with teams to implement the Family Engagement in Systems Assessment Tools with a coach.
- We supported and trained family leaders by establishing a learning community to meet their unique needs.
- We provided technical assistance and training to the PPCs to help them build infrastructure for sustainable family engagement.
