Medicaid Waivers

Several states (MS, OK, SD, TN) have requested Medicaid waivers to establish “community engagement” (work, school) requirements on extremely low-income parents/caretakers of children on Medicaid. On March 6, over 50 healthcare organizations sent a letter to the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), Alex Azar, urging that the Department deny states’ requests to establish Medicaid work-reporting requirements on extremely low-income parents and caregivers, and to reconsider any other Medicaid policies that place new obstacles between children and families and the health care they need.
