Funding for FY 2026, which ends September 30, 2026, just finished. Now the appropriations process for the next year ramps up. At the end of February, the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee opened requests for federal spending requests for FY 2027. Members of Congress received guidance on how to develop FY 2027 funding requests and properly submit their funding priorities. This process is also important for members of the public, some of whom are invited to submit proposals for FY 2027 funding. The Senate typically creates its legislation at the same time as the House, and the two chambers attempt to align before passing the bill(s).
Expected timeline for the FY 2027 appropriations process:
- March or April – House Appropriations Committee hearings with Administration officials to discuss upcoming year priorities
- Early April – Release of the President’s FY 2027 budget
- May – House Appropriations Committee markup of appropriations legislation
- July – Floor vote on appropriations package(s)
