Title: Director of Finance
Reports to: Executive Director
 

 

 

 

 

 

The Director of Finance collaboratively implements the infrastructure and systems needed to support Family Voices’ strategic objectives. The successful candidate is a hands-on and participative manager.

Working with other members of the senior leadership team, the Director of Finance will play a critical role in decision making in multiple areas as Family Voices continues to enhance its quality programming and build its capacity.

This position will have direct management responsibility for support and oversight of 2-3 finance staff members.

Position Status: Full-time with benefits; FLSA non-exempt
Compensation and Benefits: Salary range $108,649 – $122,230.  Family Voices offers paid time off; health, vision, and dental insurance; short- and long-term disability; flex spending plans; and a 401(k) plan with employer contribution.
Work Location: Remote with occasional travel for staff meetings and other events.   Candidates should have a dedicated home office working space.

Responsibilities and Duties

Financial Management

The Director of Finance is responsible for the oversight of a variety of operations and will be involved in a range of strategic planning and internal initiatives. The Director of Finance works closely with the Executive Director (ED) and the contracted CPA to oversee current systems of budgeting, financial forecasting, audit activities, payroll, and accounts payable and receivable. This Director also helps to evaluate systems for future needs as the agency grows. The ideal candidate will be skilled at capturing key data and implementing processes that enable and demonstrate the relationship between Family Voices’ goals and future funding requirements. Areas of oversight will include the ability to:

  • Analyze financial position and external funding opportunities to understand and address funding needs of the organization.
  • Create and maintain monthly financial reports and accounting processes that track staffing assignments and identify adjustments needed to address staffing, program and funding needs.
  • Collaborate with senior management to regularly track current and future project funding (pipeline and project forecast charts).
  • Manage and oversee relationships with financial consultants/CPA firm.
  • Ensure timely and accurate delivery of financial processes including accounts payable, accounts receivable, month-end close, year-end close, financial reporting, appropriate internal controls, biweekly payroll administration, 1099 issuance and other financial management activities as needed.
  • Direct and oversee Family Voices budgeting activities including annual budget, project budgets, quarterly updates (forecasts) and proposal budgets.
  • Serve as primary contact for fiscal matters and communicate regularly with stakeholders.
  • Lead the annual audit and 990 process, liaise with external auditors, finance committee of the board of directors, and internal accounting team
  • Lead the annual indirect cost rate negotiation/renewal process
  • Collaborate with the senior management team to review and update policies and practices to improve the agency’s financial procedures.
  • Collaborate with other area directors in any situation that involves financial decisions or information, such as with Communications to develop annual financial reports, Human Resources to analyze benefit costs and cost-sharing, and Digital Operations to manage and track recurring tool costs.
Grants and Contracts Oversight
  • In collaboration with the Grants and Contracts Manager and Digital Operations, implement a robust grants and contracts management system.
  • Compile and submit financial reports as required by funders/grants/contracts.
  • Oversee filing and information access for all grants and contracts information.
  • Ensure timely maintenance of external reporting/compliance systems and portals required to maintain the organization’s access to government funding (ex. EHB, SAM.gov, GrantSolutions.gov).
  • In collaboration with ED and Directors, develop and provide oversight of agency contracts.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws and regulations around grant management and funder-specific requirements.
  • Perform sub-recipient monitoring and risk assessments.
  • Oversee the development and monitoring of grant/contract related information, including budgets, for current and proposed projects.
Senior Leadership and Strategy
  • Develop, implement, and oversee Family Voices’ 5-year strategic plan for the finance department, including work plans, deliverables, timelines, and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate closely with the Executive Director and Area Directors to plan and implement strategy for shared organizational goals.
  • Prepare and present financial statements to the board of directors, including the Finance and Audit Committee

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree, ideally with a master’s degree and/or CPA, and 5 – 7 years of increasing experience in a senior financial management position
  • Broad financial and operations management experience, preferably in non-profit settings, including knowledge of audit and budget development processes
  • A successful track record in setting priorities, using key data to drive decisions, organization, and problem-solving skills that support and enable sound decision-making
  • Proven effectiveness in managing others, empowering them to make decisions
  • Experience communicating effectively with multiple audiences
  • Capacity to see beyond the numbers and identifying trends and new possibilities for achieving Family Voices’ mission
  • Values diversity of thought, backgrounds, and perspectives
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and be responsive to a variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Hands-on, leads by example, demonstrates sound judgment

  • Experience with special health care needs preferred
