FELSC Learning Collaborative Cohort 1 Washington

Goals and Accomplishments

The Washington team intended to educate the University of Washington Institute on Human Development and Disability and Proof Point Community about family engagement by implementing the Family Engagement in Systems Assessment Tools (FESAT) and using information gathered from the FESAT to improve clinic processes and family experiences. The team educated and advocated for family engagement in several clinics and with leadership in multiple organizations.

The Family to Family Health Information Center in Florida is PAVE: Partnerships for Action, Voices for Empowerment

The team is pleased with:

  • Relationships and partnerships formed across programs for children and youth with special health care needs, including the Institute on Human Development and Disability, the University of Washington Proof Point Community, and the Washington Department of Health.
  • Building a knowledgeable, effective and lean advocacy team who accomplishes important goals around family engagement
  • Providing data collection and analysis to identify areas of improvement for family engagement in targeted clinics

The team hopes to:

  • Serve as a pilot for future expansion across other clinics, systems and programs

Advice for future cohorts:

  • Have a clear understanding of the overall purpose and goals of the Learning Collaborative. Then determine if your team’s project goals align with those of the Learning Collaborative.

  • Be narrow in the scope of what you want to accomplish.

  • Choose a project that aligns with another current project
