The National Institutes of Health is in the first stage of developing an agency-wide NIH Strategic Plan for Disability Research. The strategic plan will identify scientific themes and develop operational goals and objectives to advance research activities that promote the health and well-being of people with disabilities. NIH plans to engage stakeholders in disability communities to get their input on health and research concerns and unique needs and preferences.
The NIH started hosting a Community Roundtable series and a virtual Town Hall. Roundtables will be 60 minutes long and open to the public with a Q&A session at the end. Panelists will include people with lived experience, researchers, clinicians, advocacy organizations, and professional associations.
The Town Hall will be 60 minutes long and open to the public. There will be a presentation on NIH disability work, discussion of the strategic planning process, and a summary of input and feedback received so far. There will also be a facilitated Q&A with the audience.
