Olga M. López

Olga López is the Family Engagement Specialist at the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). Originally from Medellin, Colombia, Olga came to the United States 20 years ago. Prior to her role at DESE, Olga was the Latino Outreach Specialist at the Federation for Children with Special Needs, where she worked closely with families and stakeholders on capacity building and provided technical assistance. Olga has also served on the Advisory Committee for the New England Regional Genetics Network (NERGN), is a formal LEND Fellow from UMASS Medical School at the Eunice Kennedy Shiver Center, and was a special education/ESL teacher in Boston Public Schools for fourteen years. She holds two Masters in Special Education: the first from CEIPA University in Medellin, Colombia and the second from Cambridge College. Olga also developed the Latino Parent Leadership Program (PLPL) in Massachusetts, providing training for Latino Family leaders. In her new role as the Family Engagement Specialist she will be coordinating DESE’s family engagement efforts and build internal capacity to support districts and schools in engaging with families.
